New vessels of FESCO’s fleet operate in accordance with collective bargaining agreement

Over the past two months the Far Eastern Shipping Company added three vessels to its fleet - FESCO Yanina and FESCO Olga (flag of Russia) and FESCO Sofia (flag of Cyprus) – under  their long-term fleet renewal program. The vessels are covered with collective bargaining  agreements, which are a guarantee of decent working conditions for the crew members employed on the ships of the company.

Nikolay Zadoyanov, Chairman of SUR Primary Organization of  FESCO, noted that the Far Eastern Shipping Company is a long-standing social partner of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia.  

- All FESCO vessels flying the Russian flag are automatically subject to the collective agreement  concluded with our SUR Primary Organization, - he said. - FESCO Sofia operates under a foreign flag, therefore the  IBF collective agreement applies to it.

It is known that dry-cargo ship FESCO Olga will be engaged in tramp operations. The ship will  start its first voyage from China to St. Petersburg in mid-November. As for the technical characteristics, its length is 138 meters, width - 21 meters, deadweight - 12,744 tons. Its ice class IA meets the standards required for operation in freezing seas. The dry-cargo ship is equipped with two cranes capable of lifting loads weighing up to 240 tons in dual mode of operation. The  number of crew members is 14,  Andrey Garmash is the Master.

As for FESCO Sofia, the vessel will operate on  FESCO China Express line - between the ports of the Far East of Russia and China. The length of this containership is 220.45 meters, width - 32.24 meters, deadweight - 41,745 tons, capacity - 3,091 TEU. It is noteworthy that FESCO already operates two vessels of the same type - FESCO Dalnegorsk and FESCO Diomid. The new containership can take on board  up to 500 refrigerated containers. The vessel is equipped with three cranes with a lifting capacity 45 tons each. The number of crew members is 18, the Master is Igor Savushkin.

Meanwhile, the containership "FESCO Yanina" has already pit into operation. The ship embarked on its first  voyage to Magadan on September 22 under command  of Master Yuri Barybkin. The number of crew is 14 seafarers. The length of the vessel is 142 meters, width - 22 meters, deadweight - 13,007 tons, capacity - 962 TEU.

Seafarers Union of  Russia believes that the renewal of the fleet will benefit  the crew members: it’s not just about additional jobs for Russian seafarers but it is also an important factor in improving working conditions.
