The 5th
edition of Morskoy Profsoyuzny Vestnik (MPV) magazine has beenissued in 2018. It highlights
whetherthe unions would continue to
fight against adopted pension reform, and also aboutthe captain'srolein modern shipping and the
undesirablelist of ships for seafarers'
employment.
Reportedly,thelaw on theretirement-age raisingwere
signed on October 3. According to it, gradual increasing of pension age to 65
formenand to 60 forwomenwill be startedfrom January 1, 2019.Yet thebill won't beapplied to thecitizens entitled to benefits including
commercial seafarers. Although there is no guarantee that thesystemforthese citizenswouldn'tbe transformed at thenext step
of “reforms”.
On October 9, the
memorial plaque dedicated to the sea captain Aram Mikhailovich Oganov, who was
a Hero ofSocial Labour, wasopened in St.Petersburg. The memorial sign
was posted on the wall oftheBuilding A, on 184 Nevsky Prospekt. Herethefamous seafarerlived till 2008.
Beforethere wasn't any memorial sign in
honourof the seafarers of merchant
fleet ina maritimecapital ofRussia.But nowthis historical injustice hasbeen resolved.
Thecollective
agreements were signed between the Seafarers' Union ofRussia (SUR) andtwoshipping companies, Stolt Tanker B.V. and Nakhodkatanker. By this step
they confirmed thecoursetoward providing the decentsocial guaranteesfor seafarers. Learn moreabout the conditions withintheRussian
