The ranks of the Seafarers Union of Russia were joined by a fourth-year cadet of the Far Eastern Maritime School (Nakhodka), 20-year-old Daniil Gromov. The reason to enlist the support of the SUR was several unpleasant incidents during the job training on sea vessels.
He said that during the period of training, he was not always paid the money he earned. In particular, there were difficulties in obtaining a document that confirms that the shipowner must pay the remaining part of the money.
«In one of these cases, we helped Daniel to make a statement to the transport prosecutor's office of Nakhodka. We hope that as a result of the audit, he will receive a document confirming the debt and money», - said the chairman of the Far Eastern territorial organization of the Seafarers Union of Russia Nikolay Sukhanov. In addition, the cadet noted that it is difficult to find a place on the ship for training. As a rule employers are reluctant to hire the cadets.
Moreover, several times the crewing companies asked for money for help in finding employment. «Of course, this is illegal. The services of a licensed agency are always paid for by shipping companies, and there are no exceptions to this rule»- said N. Sukhanov.
Taking into account that the cadet is keenly interested in the protection of rights and the work of the trade union, the technical inspector of labor of the FETO SUR, a member of the Youth Council of the SUR, Vitaliy Miroshnichenko, proposed Daniil Gromov to organize a group of cadets in the school. If possible, they will have an introductory conversation, the representatives of the union will talk about the SUR, tell them how to behave in difficult situations, and answer any additional questions.
By the way, Daniil Gromov recently returned from a round-the-world voyage on the sailing ship Pallada. «This time, he did not have any problems with the job training, since he got on board the sailboat from the school. Now he is preparing to thesis statement, and we, of course, wish him success in his studies»,- added Nikolay Sukhanov
