The trade union and the prosecutor's office agreed on a schedule for joint inspections of crewing agencies

Today, a meeting was held between employees of the Nakhodka Transport Prosecutor's Office and representatives of the Far Eastern Territorial Organization of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia. The event took place as part of a cooperation agreement signed between the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office and the Far Eastern Territorial Organization of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia in February 2023. The meeting was attended by two Transport Prosecutor's Assistants, A. S. Kichigin and A. E. Kim, the SUR FETO Chairman Nikolay Sukhanov and the SUR FETO Lawyer Vasily Savelyev.

According to Nikolay Sukhanov, the discussion mainly focused on the activity of crewing companies operating in the Far East region. The parties agreed that it is necessary to continuously share information on cases of violations by recruitment agencies of the requirements for licensing their activities, as well as the terms of labor agreements and collective agreements when employing seafarers for work on board vessels under Russian and foreign flags. 

In addition, representatives of the trade union and the prosecutor's office agreed on various modes of interaction, including the exchange of official documents, analytical and information materials on issues related to the state of legality in the field of seafarers' labor rights, cases of the violation of these rights, including wage payments. It is also planned to hold research and practical conferences, round tables, seminars, and meetings on protection of the interests of maritime transport workers.

The action plan of the SUR FETO and the Prosecutor's Office includes joint inspections of crewing companies and Russian vessels 

in the ports of the Far East, elimination of violations of the rights of seafarers alongside the implementation of appropriate measures. The parties agreed on a schedule of joint inspections of crewing agencies until the end of 2023.
