SUR and Stolt Tankers B.V. continue cooperation

The Far Eastern Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia and the shipping company Stolt Tankers B.V., the manager of the world's largest fleet of chemical tankers, have prolonged their collective agreement until 2025. 

The social partners have reached an agreement on increasing wages, increasing the amount of insurance payments, and various bonuses for the company's Russian crews. 

Thus, the salary for an able seaman is $2,283, and that for a captain is about $15,000. 

The amount of an insurance payout in the event of the death of a crew member during a voyage has also been increased. Next of kin, indicated in the seafarer's individual contract, will be entitled to receive more than $116,000.

 Besides, compensation in the amount of $23,000 is provided for each child under the age of 18 (but limited to four children). The insurance payout in the event of disability caused by an occupational accident has also increased significantly: up to $193,000 for senior officers in case of total disability. 

Also, the contract provides for other various bonuses. For example, the bonus for continuous service with the company to senior officers will be $100 for each year of service, but maximum for 20 years. In addition, senior officers on leave are provided with a monthly payment of $500 to $1,400. 

As for other bonuses, Chief Officer and 2nd Engineer having the 1st class Certificate are entitled to a monthly bonus of $200; 2nd Officer and 3d Engineer having the 1st or the 2nd class Certificate are entitled to $100, but for no more than four years. Electricians will also receive a monthly bonus of $700 for work on diesel-electric ships. 

Stolt Tankers B.V. has its own pension program. As per this program, seafarers who attain retirement age may be eligible to receive savings for their time spent working for the company. 

In addition, seafarers working in warlike operations and high-risk areas are paid a bonus equal to 100% of the daily basic wage and are entitled to a double insurance payouts. Seafarers have the right to refuse sailing to dangerous regions without risking their employment with the company, according to the contract. 

- The Seafarers' Union of Russia and Stolt Tankers B.V. have been social partners for over 25 years, - the Chair of the SUR FETO Nikolay Sukhanov notes. - At present, the company's fleet comprises of over 150 vessels with Russian crew members. Therefore, it is vital that the SUR maintains the cooperation in safeguarding their rights and interests.
