Happy Spring and Labor Day!

Dear friends and colleagues, on behalf of the Seafarers' Union of Russia and myself personally, I congratulate you on the Spring and Labor Day! 

May Day is a special day that signifies the power of unity and cohesion. For the second century, it unites all those who transform the world for the better, protect workers' rights, and believe in justice. The history of the holiday started with the struggle for an 8-hour working day, but since then the world has changed dramatically. 

Today we oppose discrimination and manipulation of laws, child labor and the list of "non-female" professions. Besides, this holiday is a great opportunity for workers to declare their right to decent employment and livelihood, to demonstrate cohesion and the power of solidarity, which can move heaven and earth and expand beyond. 

For SUR, solidarity is not just a word, but the essence of the profession. Seafarers are aware that it is crucial to hold together while at sea, because united by shared goals we represent a huge power. 

Together, we are a stronghold of protection. 

As before, the SUR will seek better working conditions for maritime workers through concluding collective agreements to make every seafarer sure that he has a fraternal shoulder, a support and a pillar of strength in the person of the trade union.
